Justin Kalb President

With a grandfather, father and uncle in the business, construction was in Justin’s blood, but he didn’t just walk into the business. He started as a runner doing odd jobs and worked for a general contractor in North Carolina after graduating with a B.S. in Construction Engineering from Arizona State University. Working his way up to president of Kalb Industries in 2012, Justin’s leadership has driven the company to increase its revenue from $12.6 million to an excess of $80 million this year.

He believes in the power of communication, teamwork and networking, and lives by the tenant that honesty and integrity are everything in business. Justin emphasizes outstanding customer service and developed a company blueprint for budgeting that enabled substantial growth even during the recent supply chain issues and economic concerns. Justin excels in completing projects in advance of deadlines and, importantly, on budget, leading to a 95 percent client retention rate. Justin wants to be remembered for giving back to the community that has given his family so much through the years. He helped reorganize the Make-A-Wish Foundation board to meet future needs for the many children it serves with life-threatening medical conditions, has been a board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. He is a graduate of the Metro Chamber of Commerce Leadership Las Vegas and the current Chapter Chair of Young Presidents Organization (YPO) – Las Vegas Chapter. Justin was named Top 40 under 40, and recently received the Sun Devil 100 Award from his alma mater.

Justin is dedicated to balancing his career and family life with his beautiful wife Jessica, son Hudson and his triplet daughters, Blair, Sloane, and Gigi.

Steve Kalb CEO

Steven C. Kalb graduated with a B.S. in Construction Engineering from Arizona State University. He is the former CEO of Kalb Construction and has been involved in more than $750 million in construction projects in the Las Vegas Valley since joining the Kalb Companies in 1973. Steve’s professional involvement includes past president of the Las Vegas Chapter of Associated General Contractors of America; Contractor of the Year and Life Board Member, National Board Member of Associated General Contractors of America; and Chairman of the Family Owned Business Committee. He has given back to his community by serving on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America, Opportunity Village and the City of Las Vegas Redevelopment Corporation, among others. Steven has spent almost 25 years with the Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas, including holding positions as Past President and a past member of the Board of Directors.

CATHY BIEL Vice President of Operations

As Vice President of Operations, Cathy provides effective support for daily maintenance of the office, as well as project management and processing, records management, collections. As the construction industry continues to evolve, Cathy facilitates the addition of new software and develops policies and procedures that ensure both field and office teams work synergistically on every project. She currently is managing the transition to a paperless system throughout the office. With Kalb Industries since 1993. Cathy successfully has completed construction management courses at UNLV, as well as courses in Mechanic Lien laws and Collection laws. A mother to two beautiful daughters, Cathy spends her spare time at the beach and boating, travelling and spending as much time as possible with her grandson Landon.

DARIN PIPKINS Vice President of Construction

Darin Pipkins has been working for Kalb Industries since 1999, and in that time, he has held the positions of superintendent, general superintendent, project manager and estimator. He currently is Vice President of Construction. Previously, he spent seven years as a project superintendent and general superintendent with Longford Homes and Saxton Development.

Darin specializes in bidding projects with concept drawings and design-build plans for commercial estimating. He has been involved in new commercial ground-up projects, Class A office, industrial office/warehouse, restaurant, tenant improvements, and all aspects of insurance-related repairs for commercial construction. Darin is responsible for developing, consulting and servicing new customer accounts. He has been a member of NAIOP for the past eight years, and has worked with the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada for the past 19 years. Darin has been married to the love of his life, Heather, for 28 years and has a beautiful daughter Samantha, and grandson Declan. He is an avid golfer and loves to spend time with his family camping every chance he gets.

BRENDEN GRAVES Vice President of Project Development

As Vice President of Project Development, Brenden Graves will maintain current client relationships while cultivating new opportunities for Kalb Industries. With twelve years in commercial real estate, Brenden has created a network as well as a reputation for exceeding client expectations. Brenden has always taken pride in being at the top of his class both scholastically and professionally including his time spent serving our country in the United States Marine Corps. Brenden believes in the power of connections and uses his network to provide the best service for his clients from initial project meetings through projection completion, which he will see is on time and budget. Brenden has held a real estate license in California and Nevada, completed a Master’s in Business, and is always finding ways to refine himself through podcasts and real estate organizations. Brenden is a member of local real estate and development organizations NAIOP, SIOR, and CCIM. He was recently the vice president of NAIOP’s developing leaders institute program. When not working he also loves to spend his free time religiously going to CrossFit and yoga and enjoys time with his Fiancé Ashlee her two girls Amani and Avari as well as his three girls Jaxon, Westley, and Riley. He is also a die-hard Laker fan, he watches every game!

LUCINDA PATTERSON Vice President of Finance

As Vice President of Finance, Lucinda oversees all project and company financials for Kalb Industries and Blak Development including, directing accounting operations, and overseeing all transactions related to the general ledger, job cost, receivables, payables, payroll, and financial reporting. Analyzing the company’s financial results with respect to profits, trends, costs, and compliance with budgets. She also maintains relationships with brokers, subcontractors, and vendors. Lucinda has 25 years of experience in the construction industry, of which 16 years were spent as a controller for large-scale projects. Including City Center Las Vegas, Hudson Yards in New York City, San Diego State University football stadium, and Pechanga Casino in Temecula, CA to name a few of Lucinda’s most notable projects. In addition to her many years of experience, Lucinda has a master’s degree in accounting. Outside of work she enjoys bowling playing golf, sewing, and traveling with her husband.

GEORGE JARVIS General Superintendent

George Jarvis has been in the construction field for over 32 years. He joined the Kalb Industries team in 2001 and has held several roles within the organization, Superintendent, Estimator/Project Manager, and General Superintendent. As the General Superintendent, he is responsible for managing over twenty superintendents while simultaneously ensuring projects are running on time by monitoring project schedules and communicating with superintendents, field employees, and subcontractors to identify any possible issues or project delays. George is also certified in MAP Management System, and OSHA 30 certified, he is committed to training new and current employees on how to be effective and efficient team members while highlighting the safest practices on the job site. When he is not working George enjoys being outside camping, grilling, or enjoying a razor ride with his family and friends.

MARK GUTIERREZ Senior Estimator

Mark Gutierrez has been estimating commercial construction projects in the Las Vegas Valley for more than 30 years for projects ranging from tenant improvements, commercial centers, medical facilities, restaurants, convenience stores, and tilt-up warehouse buildings. His involvement begins pre-construction with such activities as budgeting and subcontractor negotiations, and he diligently maintains a database of experienced subcontractors. Mark earned a B.S. in Construction Engineering from Arizona State University. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and spending time with his wife of 21 years, Susan, and their two boys Gabriel and Jacob.

MARK KOCH Project Manager/Estimator

After 10 years in the construction field, Mark Koch joined Kalb Industries in September 1996. As project manager, his responsibilities include consistent communication with the client, all partners and contractors, negotiating contracts and change orders, overseeing design and estimating all projects. Mark enjoys the variety in his work and finding solutions to new challenges. One of his favorite projects was the Hoover Dam Lodge, both because of its historical significance to the community and the fact that he participated in the design of the project. Married to his wife, Terri, for more than 20 years, Mark came to Kalb from the Phoenix area where he worked on high-end residential and commercial projects.

RICK THOMAS Project Manager

With a vast scope of knowledge in many different areas of construction Rick Thomas is able to provide valuable insights on a multitude of diverse projects. As project manager for the company, he has overseen a number of successful large-scale projects from high rise buildings to residential, managing client relationships and project personnel, as well as value engineering on the client’s behalf. Many of his projects have been recognized by NAIOP, and he was been awarded for Site Safety three times by the Nevada Association of General Contractors. His previous experiences include a wide range of projects including working once before as a project superintendent for Kalb Construction. A father of four with 9 grandchildren, Rick’s personal time is spent traveling, hiking, camping, boating, fishing and skiing and other activities with family and friends.

KIM COLLINS Permit Coordinator

Kim Collins fell in love with the construction industry when she held an administrative position with Kalb Industries in the mid-1980s. Working for other general contractors throughout the country allowed her to hone her skills and move up from project coordinator to project manager. Thirty years later, Kim happily returned to Kalb, and today she is the Permit Coordinator, working closely with a design team to make sure project permits are submitted in a timely manner and help to expedite the permit process. Kim not only ensures that the permit is submitted correctly, which is a crucial role in the beginning stages of construction she also tracks it through the plan review process, which allows her to work on any revisions, deferred submittals, and inspection issues that may arise. Kim has developed strong working relationships with personnel at the building departments to strengthen the line of commination in all stages of our projects. Internally she keeps projects on track by facilitating Notice to Proceed with clients, and subcontractors who are working with long lead times as well as providing tracking of utility designs, such as Nevada Energy, Southwest Gas, and Cox, to make sure they stay on schedule.

Kim holds an associate degree in Computer Technology, and a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Arts-Web Design and has given back to her community through volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, the Child Abuse Network, Make-A-Wish,and the American Red Cross. She loves to read and spend time with friends and enjoys outdoor fun like camping, hiking, fishing, and kayaking.
