Rick Hagendorn has the distinction of working at Kalb Industries since 1987 – that’s 30 years! Rick was originally hired as a superintendent for George F. Kalb Construction Co. and in 1991 took over the insurance division, known as Kalb Industries of Nevada, as General Manager. Rick’s main role is the estimator for large loss insurance claims. He works closely with adjusters and clients to restore damage caused by fire/smoke, water, mold, vehicle, wind and structural issues. When Rick took over the insurance division he attended an insurance seminar where he was introduced to Xactimate, which is an insurance software program that Kalb Industries continues to use.
In 1987, Rick watched as the running of the Kalb companies transitioned from George F. Kalb to his sons, George and Steve. It has been “Deja Vu” watching the running of the company now transition from Steve to his son Justin. Rick has watched the company grow steadily over the years, surviving through the 2008 recession. A big part of that growth has been due to the relationships built over the decades with local, large loss and public adjusters. Rick can drive throughout the Las Vegas valley and see buildings that he has built or repaired. One project that stands out for Rick is a $1.5 Million Dollar fire repair, about 15 years ago. That client continues to be a friend and repeat client of Kalb Industries.
When asked “what is the biggest change you have seen in the construction industry,” the response was building code changes. Revisions to the structural building codes have been the biggest challenge, even on homes built in the last 5 to 10 years. Structural repairs and upgrades can increase the cost of insurance repairs, but most insurance policies will cover the majority of those costs.
According to Rick the years have gone fast. He looks forward to the weekends so he can get away to the mountains. To learn more about Rick’s background and other team members, visit our website at http://kalbindustries.com/about/team/.
